Welcome back to our blog series about common car wash myths! In part one, we explored general myths about when and why to get a car wash. In this post, we’ll explore myths that specifically apply to automatic car wash services. If you’re in the Odessa, TX area, don’t fall for these myths and consider coming in for a quality car wash at Crazy Clean Car Wash today!

Myth: Automatic Car Washes Damage the Car

This myth may have been true in years past when we were more ignorant of the effects of the tools we used to wash our cars with. The long story short is that many older automatic car wash systems tend to use abrasive brushes to do their work. It’s been shown that, while excellent for rinsing and scrubbing, the brushes are not so friendly to your car’s clear coat and paint job.

At Crazy Clean Car Wash, we make sure that every component that physically touches your car is harmless. We use special foam brushes that don’t put any wear and tear on your coat. You won’t have to worry about any kind of damage when you use our services, and you can sit back and relax as the machines pull your car through and take care of everything!

Myth: Automatic Car Washes are Less Cost Effective

This is a tricky one because it’s contingent upon your point of view regarding value, as well as how much you wash your car.

On a normal day, we can’t deny that a normal hand-wash is cheaper than an automatic service. Doing it at home is free, and going to a self-serve hand-wash center is typically easier on the wallet than an automatic tunnel wash.

However, there is a component that allows you to get more than your money’s worth out of automatic washes: monthly passes.

Many automatic services, including Crazy Clean Car Wash, offer monthly passes that allow for unlimited car washes for a flat monthly fee. For one lump sum, you can take advantage of the car wash as many times as you want. If you were to go once a day, it would be less than $1 per wash with our cheapest package! Our most expensive bundle, with a smorgasbord of premium benefits, only comes out to about $1.60 per wash for daily usage.

If you intend to use the car wash a lot, that kind of deal is unbeatable. It allows you to clean your car much more than you would normally, and you don’t have to put in any work. So while it may be true that the cost is higher, the value you’re getting from each dollar goes much farther than a cheaper one-time hand-wash.

Myth: Automatic Car Washes Are More Wasteful

This one isn’t really subjective — this is an important issue, so you can bet there have been loads of studies on this. Did you know that the average automatic car wash only uses about 40 gallons of water? To put things into perspective, that’s about the same amount of water as a normal bath or an eight-minute shower. With all of the water that’s dousing your car in a tunnel wash, you’d think it would be much more than that, but looks can be deceiving.

On the other hand, hand-wash jobs with hoses average at about 120 gallons per wash. Yikes! The biggest reason for this is inefficiency; theoretically, a hand-wash should use less water, but people tend to take more time than is necessary, clean sub-optimally, and run the hose for the majority of the time. These factors combined end up using much more water.

Automatic car washes are designed to waste as little water as possible and are programmed to be extremely efficient. But don’t take our word for it — check out this video made by the Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) that examines the issue.
